New Americans Ministry

We have the great privilege of being friends with a large group of Bhutanese refugees from Nepal.  These refugees fled from Bhutan due to ethnic cleansing and have lived in refugee camps in Nepal for 18 years.  They have lived in Lansing now for anywhere from a year to only a few days, and more arrive on a daily basis.  On Saturdays, we meet together at Barefoot from 11am-1pm.  We begin by hanging out and playing games (especially ping pong!) while we eat lunch, which is then followed by a Bible discussion.  Our refugee friends are predominantly Hindu.  Our prayer is to build authentic long-term friendships with them, to help them adjust to a new life in America, to help them with their physical needs, and to both show and share the love of Christ with them that they too may someday know Jesus as Lord and Savior.  All are welcome to come and assist with this ministry.  (We meet every other Saturday… Feb. 6th & 20th; March 6th & 20th, etc.)

Haiti Relief

Already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti was recently devastated by a massive earthquake.  At Barefoot, we are getting behind World Relief, who has already been ministering in Haiti for 15 years.  You can donate to World Relief’s Haiti efforts here. Stay tuned for further updates on how Barefoot will be getting involved in the short and long term relief process.

Eastside Wednesdays

We hang out over at the church every Wednesday from 3:30-5:30pm.  This is a Bible study time for our youth, focusing specifically on the kids in the Eastside neighborhood.  All school ages are welcome as we divide kids up by age group.  If you are an adult that would like to help out, or a kid or teen who’d like to come join us, please come on over.
